Before You Start

Measure the oats and about 2 cups water, rinse the berries, and set the cinnamon within reach so nothing scorches.

How To Make It
  1. Add the rolled oats to a pot with about 2 cups water and bring to a gentle simmer over medium high, 2 to 3 minutes, until the surface bubbles at the edges.
  2. Lower the heat and cook, stirring often, 5 to 7 minutes, until the oats are soft and the pot looks creamy.
  3. Stir in the cinnamon off the heat so it blooms without turning bitter.
  4. Top with the mixed berries and the cilantro and serve warm.
Fix It: If it turns stiff and gluey, loosen it with a splash of hot water and stir; oats keep drinking up liquid as they sit.
Microwave
  1. Add the ingredients you would cook together to a microwave safe bowl along with their liquid.
  2. Cover loosely and microwave in one minute bursts, stirring between each, until hot through.
  3. Let it stand for a minute, then finish and plate the dish as written in the steps above.
